La Policia Municipal (Local), dressed in blue uniforms, are generally designated an area of control, reminiscent of a village bobby, and their main duties include traffic and parking control, and ensuring compliance to Ayuntamiento (council) directives. They are unarmed, but are often seen as the first line of defence against petty crime, which is thankfully pretty rare, certainly in the Valley.

La Guardia Civil (green uniforms) patrol Spain's highways and rural areas. On motorways etc. they operate in pairs, one a trained mechanic, and the other trained in first aid. They combat crime of a more serious nature, and are generally regarded as being polite, honest and helpful.
