Medical Emergencies

For very serious accidents and illnesses requiring an ambulance, the emergency telephone number is 061.

Less serious emergencies: telephone: 902 202 061 You will be asked the nature of the emergency so that a doctor can be despatched if necessary. Spanish ambulance drivers are not paramedics.

24 hour Health Centre
For less serious problems not requiring an ambulance, the Centro de Salud at C/ San Ramon, 2 in Durcal provides a 24-hour service. The telephone number is 958 780901. We advise you to contact your travel insurance company at the earliest possible opportunity for further advice.

Chemists
Farmacias, signposted by a green cross, have a monopoly on many products that in the U.K. one would expect to be able to buy almost anywhere, such as plasters, cotton buds and pain killers, and because of this, the cost may seem a little on the high side. However it is possible to buy what might be a prescription drug in the U.K. over the counter in Spain. Spanish pharmacists have the authority to make general diagnoses and prescribe medicines accordingly.
There are farmacias in Lecrin, Albuñuelas, Restabal, Pinos, Padul and Durcal; opening hours are generally 09.30 - 14.00 and 17.00 - 20.30, Monday to Friday, and 10.00 - 14.00 on Saturdays. The farmacia Mesa Martin in C/ General Serrano in Durcal also opens Sundays and festivals between 10.00 and 14.00. Outside normal hours this establishment offers an emergency service, but a doctors' prescription is required. (Tel. 958 780094)

Hospitals
In an emergency, you will find the hospitals in the area near the Plaza de Toros. Access from the Circonvalación is from junction 130 La Chana or 131 Mendez Núñez. The hospitals are clearly marked on the map of Granada and signposted at road junctions.

There are four dentists in the valley at present, although a new practice is opening in Albuñuelas.
