Driving
Generally in this area, the main roads are in excellent condition and
traffic is light. Nearer Granada there may be delays at rush hour times,
of which there are four, as many workers enjoy an extended lunch break.
Saturday evenings, especially in the summer, can be very busy. With the
recent opening of the N323 (Autovia de Granada) driving to the city or
the coast could not be easier. It is, however, important to point out
that Spain does not have a good road safety record, and so it is essential
to drive defensively and always expect the unexpected from other road
users, stray animals, slow moving vehicles etc..
Please also bear
in mind the following:
Always carry car documents, insurance documentation, driving licence
and a copy of your passport.
Seat belts are compulsory for all passengers.
Children under 12 should not occupy a front seat unless an approved
child seat is fitted.
Headlights must be used at night, in poor visibility and in tunnels.
Above all, be observant and pay careful attention to rights of way.
You may be stopped
on the road by a police road block. This is routine and you will find
that the Guardia are very courteous. They will want to see your car documents
and passport.
