Hotels
and B&B's in the Lecrin Valley
The Lecrin
Valley has a multitude of bars and a few restaurants; we have included
establishments across the valley, but ultimately the choice is yours.
Don´t forget however, that the main meal for Spanish people is at
about 14.00 or 14.30 and evening meals are generally served quite late,
especially in the summer, around 22.00. It is worth mentioning that whenever
you buy a drink, it will probably be served with a complimentary tapa,
certainly in the valley and mostly in Granada. Many bars and restaurants
close on Mondays and in the winter may only be open for food in the evenings
from Friday to Sunday. Check first!

Durcal
is the main town and commercial centre of the Lecrin Valley; most night
time activity centres around the Plaza de los Magnolios (behind Bar Florida),
where the Meson Bao Bad offers a large terrace area, friendly staff and
a 'fast foodish' menu, including take-away pizzas. On the opposite side
of the Plaza is the Meson La Buhardilla, which is both a bar and a restaurant,
and serves excellent tapas and meals. In the high street is Meson Fidel
which offers great tapas and good restaurant food.
On the outskirts of
Durcal, following the 'high street' northwards towards Padul and Granada
is the Hostal/Restaurante Bio-Durcal, a lovely, converted mill on the
banks of the Rio Durcal. The standard of cooking is excellent, and it
is refreshingly cool under the trees in the summer, but it can sometimes
be a little lonely in the mid week evenings! Children will enjoy the swans,
ducks and other animals!
Lecrin
has several bars, but no restaurants. Bar Garvi, on the crossroads at
Talara/Lecrin serves very good local food. It is a traditional Spanish
bar with very helpful staff. Venta Natalio higher up the main street is
well known for its excellent pizzas.
Mondujar: The
Castillo de Morayma is a restaurant and bar a little way from the village
- up into the hills. From Lecrin, drive towards the motorway and take
the turning right just before the slip road on to the motorway for Motril.
Follow the small wooden signs. The restaurant is closed on Mondays and
may not always be open during the winter months except at weekends; staff
are friendly and helpful. (We have a very good walk based on this area!)
Niguelas, to
the east of Durcal, is a very popular village with visitors and has many
bars. There are two restaurants ( both situated on the road out of the
village towards Durcal). The Alqueria de los Lentos, is a picturesque
converted mill, with very friendly owners, Mercedes and Paco. They have
only a little English, but are always helpful. (Closed Mondays). The Armadillo
is new and is run by an English chef. It is stylishly furnished, has a
good outside terrace and great food. It has a pool table, satellite TV
and live music. It is in the same road as Los Lentos - closer to Durcal.
Take the turning to Niguelas, just off the N323A just past the car wash
and sports centre.
Pinos del Valle,
situated above the Embalse de Beznar, on the south side of the valley,
is divided into upper and lower barrios. In the upper barrio, on the road
that circles the village is the Bar Venecio which serves tapas and raciones.
Further down the hill and just off the main street is a new bar serving
food.
If you take the old road from here down to Motril - following the signs
to the Guajares, you will reach Guajar Alto, where there are two lovely
bars serving excellent local food: Las Carmenes and Los Olivos. A beautiful
scenic ride - probably better done for lunch than in the evening!
Melegis has
two bar/restaurants, both on the main Lecrin to Albunuelas road. El Nuevo
Valle offers good barbecues on the terrace in summer; Los Naranjos has
great views over the valley and consistently serves good quality local
food, and very good tapas. (Closed Wednesdays).
Conchar, small
but very picturesque village, has a small bar/restaurant. La Huertacilla,
which overlooks the gorge of the Rio Durcal has a very pleasant terrace
and helpful staff.
Albunuelas
has two bars that you may like to try. The Bar Careto, in the main street
on the left as you follow the main street round a pronounced double bend
(parking on the left hand side of the street), and in the first main square,
MesonTres Lindes on the right, diagonally opposite the entrance to the
square. Both offer traditional fare and are willing to prepare meals especially
if sufficient notice is given. Tres Lindes will prepare meals for take-away
- excellent lamb!
Restabal now
has two restaurants - each worth a visit. The excellent Bar Jovi opens
each day and now has a separate restaurant: Meson La Despensa del Valle.
The service is excellent, the tapas are superb and good local food is
available. If you order in advance you can sample their wood oven roasted
lamb or home made pizzas- not to be missed. La Capellania de Alconada
is a restaurant with a Valencian cuisine and is located in a beautiful
old house with small stylish dining rooms and superb views from the terraces.
The house was once a chapel and the last occupant was mayor of the village.
Don't miss the painting of the virgin as you enter the place. It was originally
in the house and miraculously escaped the ravages of a fire there some
years ago. The local priest informed the Vatican and the family still
has a letter signed by the Pope at the time to tell anyone who prays before
the painting that they will receive an indulgence in their journey to
the next life!
You will find several bars in the main street of Padul - mostly
serving traditional food and all serving good tapas.
